Detailing your car never feels as pressing as when coworkers spontaneously pile into your car to go to lunch. Or when a fellow parent insists on buckling their child in for a play date. Embarrassed is too simple of a word as you apologize for the dirty car, regretful that you procrastinated so long in taking it in to be cleaned. It’s been dirty for so long that you can’t remember when you last had your car cleaned or could even stand the smell of it without the assistance of an air freshener.
It’s not a surprising revelation that we spend too much time in our cars with those long commutes and family road trips. The wrappers and empty drink containers that pile up on the floor are proof of this, as we promise ourselves that we’ll clean it all up as soon as we can. Even those short rides coming back from a muddy trek with the dog or driving with a child who has a sudden case of the stomach bug can more than justify a deep cleaning.
What may actually be surprising is that it isn’t necessary to spend the money to get your car detailed when you can get the same results doing it yourself. Of course, when faced with a wall full of expensive products at the store, you might realize that you’re not going to get off as cheaply as you had hoped. That the cost of all those special wipes, brushes, and solvents are almost equivalent to what it would have cost to take the car in to be detailed.
